Klarna Migration

#A new Klarna checkout experience is here!

Klarna is unifying all payment methods in one single payment option. Check out how it looks like for your customers below:

Current purchase flow                     New purchase flow

Transitioning from the current Klarna payment methods, such as Klarna Pay Now, to the new and improved Klarna Checkout couldn't be easier! This guide provides all the information needed for a smooth migration.

There are three ways you might have integrated Klarna into your checkout system: through the Mollie HPP, via one of our webshop plugins, or through a custom integration using our Orders API. We have organised this guide to cover each of these three methods.

#Mollie Hosted Checkout

1. Log into your Mollie merchant dashboard and navigate to the payment method activation screen for the relevant profiles on which the current Klarna payment methods are enabled.
2. Enable ‘Klarna’ and disable all the current Klarna payment methods: Klarna Pay Now, Pay Later, Slice it, Pay in 3.
3. Your migration is complete and the new Klarna payment method will now be shown in your checkout.

#Webshop plugin

1. Log into your Mollie merchant dashboard.
2. Navigate to Settings > Products > Payments for the relevant profiles on which the current Klarna payment methods are enabled, and enable ‘Klarna’.
3. Log into your webshop.
4. Go to the payment settings (e.g Plugin Settings > Payment Methods), and disable all current Klarna payment methods: Klarna Pay Now, Pay Later, Slice it, Pay in 3.
5. Follow all relevant activation steps on your webshop to activate ‘Klarna’.
6. After completing steps 4 and 5, log back into your Mollie merchant dashboard and disable all current Klarna payment methods: Klarna Pay Now, Pay Later, Slice it, Pay in 3.
7. Your migration is complete and the new Klarna will now be shown in your checkout.

NOTE: If there is no option to activate the single Klarna option, update the plugin to the latest version first. The new releases will be available in the coming months and will take effect as soon as you install the latest version.

You can find the full list of compatible webshop plugins and more information on our website.

#Custom integration via Mollie API

1. Complete the necessary development work to enable Klarna in your integration.
2. Once you have completed development
   1. disable all the current Klarna payment methods: Klarna Pay Now, Pay Later, Slice it, Pay in 3.
   2. enable ‘klarna’
3. Your migration is complete and the new Klarna payment method will now be shown in your checkout.

If you are using the Methods API (recommended) you will be provided with the display name and logo in  the response to the ‘List payment methods’ call.

In case you have hardcoded display name and logo in your checkout, please find relevant assets and information here.

With the exception of changing the payment method name in the API call to "klarna" no other changes in the API calls are required.

#Settlement API Updates

If you use the Mollie Settlement API, please note a minor update: from April 1st, all legacy Klarna methods will be reported under the uniform descriptor ‘Klarna’ instead of the specific terms ‘Slice It’, ‘Pay Later’, and ‘Pay Now’.
