Before you can receive payouts, you'll need to add your bank account details to your Mollie Dashboard. We'll review this information when you start receiving payments.
What bank account can I use?
For processing transactions through Mollie and receiving payouts, you can use a business bank account. Alternatively, if you’re a sole trader, you can also use a personal bank account.”
Account types that are not supported
Mollie supports bank accounts with IBAN format and UK accounts (account number + sort code).
The following account types cannot be used to receive payouts, even if they have a valid IBAN:
- Accounts where the IBAN country and BIC country don't match — for example, a Swedish IBAN held at a Danish bank. Banks (which are used for executing payouts) require both the IBAN and BIC to match the same country. These accounts may pass the initial verification step but will fail when payouts are processed.
- Non-SEPA virtual IBANs — IBANs issued by some fintech providers that route payments via SWIFT rather than SEPA. These are not compatible with Mollie's SEPA-based payout process.
- Personal bank accounts (with the exception of sole traders). Mollie is not permitted to pay out to personal accounts for business use.
If you're unsure whether your account is compatible, check that your IBAN and BIC both belong to the same country before adding it.
Verifying your bank account
To verify your bank account, you have two options:
- Link your bank account via Plaid to securely share your bank details.
- Make a verification payment to confirm your bank details.
Once your bank account is verified, we will check the following:
- The account holder's name matches the trade name on your business registration. For sole traders, the account name should match either the legal representative's name or the registered trade name.
- You are using a business account with an IBAN or UK account number. Only sole traders can use a personal bank account.
- The verification payment is made from the same bank account that is registered on your Mollie account.
If one or more of these details are incorrect, your bank account will not be approved and we'll send you an email to provide a different bank account.
Good to know
- Some banks do not immediately allocate the correct name to a new bank account and will show a temporary name instead. We won't be able to match a temporary account name to a verification payment, so you should only make a verification payment when your bank account shows the correct name.
- If you need to change your bank account details, you'll be asked to use two-factor authentication (2FA).
- Verifying an account does not guarantee payouts will succeed. If your account type is incompatible (see above), payouts may fail after verification. If this happens, add a supported bank account or contact our support team.
