How to process voucher payments on your terminal

This article will provide you with an overview of all the options available to process voucher payments on your terminal. Voucher payments are initiated via your integrated POS system, the Mollie API or the Mollie Dashboard, rather than directly from the terminal itself.

#Initiating a payment via the Mollie Dashboard

If you do not use an integrated POS system, you can easily create a payment from your dashboard:

• Go to your POS Dashboard.

• Select 'Create Payment'.

• Fill in any optional details.

• Choose 'Voucher' from the payment method selector.

• Select the applicable voucher category for the product sold.

#Initiating a payment via API (POS Integration)

You can find a guide to implement voucher payments in our technical documentation.

Here is an overview of the steps to create a payment:

• Select pointofsale as the payment method.

• Indicate the eligible voucher category (e.g., eco, meal, gift, or sport_culture) using the lines.categories property.

• Remember that vouchers via Point of Sale only support a single category per payment.

• If a customer has a mixed basket where only part of it is eligible for a voucher, you must initiate two separate payment requests.

Always ensure you pass the correct parameters via the Mollie API.

#Initiating a payment via your POS system / integration

For payment creation via your POS system, follow the steps provided by your software provider.

#Completing the payment

• Once the payment is created, it is sent to the specified terminal.

• The shopper must complete the transaction using their voucher card.

• The payment will fail if the shopper attempts to use a credit or debit card at this stage; if they change their mind, a new payment request must be created.

#Settlements and Refunds

Depending on the provider, settlement and refund capabilities differ:

• Edenred: Settlements are managed directly by Mollie on the same timeline as regular card payments, because Edenred cards are Mastercard co-branded. Refunds are supported and work exactly like regular Mastercard refunds.

• Monizze & Pluxee: Mollie does not handle these settlements; funds are settled directly to you by the respective voucher provider. Refunds are not permitted due to limitations set by these brand issuers.

#Good to know

• For activation of vouchers please refer to this article.

• Pricing for vouchers can be found in the Mollie dashboard.

• Voucher payments will only be accepted for the voucher product category that is selected.
